July Minutes
The monthly meeting for WAKO
was held at Titlow.
Rates for next year:
-
The sports rate allows any WAKO swimmer,
participating in another sport, to still swim with WAKO once or twice a
week at a reduced rate. The rate
for next year will be $25.00 per month.
The intent is to help the swimmer maintain swimming skills and
practice routines.
-
The monthly discount for families (5%) will be
retained. The short season
discount (5%) will be dropped and the yearly discount (for families that
sign up for the full year) will be 5%.
-
Last year the joining fee for returning families
who had maintained their WAKO membership paid $30.00, while the joining
fee for new families or ones returning whom had a break in membership paid
$120.00. This year there will be
no joining fee for families who have maintained their WAKO membership.
I would appreciate your input on these rates.
Masters Program – the board will work to ensure that our masters program is maintained. The fee schedule will be reviewed with Kathy
Casey to ensure it is fair and supports the program. Masters are eligible for the discount rates.
Coaches salaries - Based on guidance from USA Swimming WAKO has always hired our
coaches as contractors with yearly contracts.
The reason was a matter of cost.
This year the direction from USA Swimming has changed, and we are going to make
them employees. This is to provide the
necessary protections for the coaches, the club, and USA Swimming. The board will work with the coaches to develop
the necessary salary schedules, job descriptions, and clear lines of responsibility. As always, the coaches will be responsible
for all aspects of our swim program.
Merger – We are working on
the general agreement, including swim times, board positions, and the
transition. The goal is to make the
merger go smoothly without a great deal of frantic effort. The current plan is to start by merging
boards and practices. By the end of the
year, we will have everything together, including a name. The coaches are both from WAKO and will
ensure the transition is right for all the swimmers. Based on the summer together at Titlow, I know it will be a great
time for all.
Merger Party – The two
presidents have discussed the idea of a summer Merger party for the two clubs
in mid-August (no firm date). It will
be an opportunity for all to meet and to sign up for next year. I would appreciate knowing what Saturday in
August would work for you. Details
will be worked out by the end of the month.
Finally, due to the lack of
swimmers on Tuesday and Thursday at Lakes, morning practice will be Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday starting next week.
Titlow will remain Monday through Thursday, and I encourage everyone to
go there at least once a week. It is a
great pool with the swimmers from both clubs swimming there.
As always let me know if you
have any issues I need to address.
